There are many ways to volunteer with Girl Scouts; however no other position provides girls with greater opportunities and benefits than the bond and relationships she develops with the leaders of her Girl Scout troop.

As the merger date of January 1, 2008 has passed, all troop checking accounts will need to be changed to reflect the new council name of Girl Scouts of Western Ohio as well as the new council ID number.

The first step to becoming a volunteer with this council is to complete the volunteer application process.

Staying "in the know" by
• Staying current on council publications, events, trainings, program events, realignment information and more.
• Keeping in contact with a volunteer consultant coach, recruiter, or Service Unit Director for support and ideas.
• Attending service unit meetings on a regular basis. Visit your Service Unit Web Page often for updates on meetings, events and much more in your area.

Developing strong girl-adult partnerships through
• Scheduling regular meetings.
• Promoting participation in GSMVC & Service Unit events and activities.
• Developing girls' leadership skills by allowing them to make decisions within the troop/group.
Involving families by
• Inviting them to a parent meeting at the beginning of the year, ceremonies and other troop/group events.
• Giving them regular updates about troop/group activities through e-mails, newsletters, fliers or phone calls.
• Encouraging parents to be drivers for field trips, extra hands at meetings or sharing their interests/talents at a meeting.

The Resource Room
The Resource Room is located in the Service Center and is open during regular business hours. New leaders, as well as those who have been leaders for a long time, will find it worth their while to spend time here planning meetings, picking up forms, gathering information and ideas for field trips or using the computer to compose a parent letter.
