Ready, Set, Go...Cookie Rally
On January 12, 2008 the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio held their annual Cookie Kickoff rally at Bowling Green State University. 600 Girl Scouts from the Maumee Valley Region (Toledo) and Appleseed Ridge Region (Lima) along with their families and volunteers attended. Girls participated in many activities from speed stacking to beading. Girls visited tables whre they could set a cookie sales goal and sample the new cookies, make craft items, get autographs from lady athletes and enter drawings. After the rally the girls and their families attended the basketball game, the Lady Falcons vs. Ohio University. At half-time the Girl Scouts in the crowd were asked to enter the court to perform a cheer/dance routine they had learned earlier that day taught by the Cheer Coach and the cheer and dance team. A great time was had by all!
The Girl Scouts of Western Ohio - Maumee Valley Region would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at Bowling Green State University for their help and support and the Girl Scouts who attended along with their families.
Ready, Set, Go! Girl Scouts of Western Ohio Cookie Program for 2008
Selling Girl Scout cookies has been part of our Girl Scout heritage and tradition for 90 years. It is an important part of what makes Girl Scouts the world's largest organization dedicated to girls. ABC Bakers was selected as the Official Girl Scout Cookie Baker for the merging Girl Scout Cookie Sales of Appleseed Ridge, Buckeye Trails, Great Rivers, and Maumee Valley regions. We are all excited about the opportunities this decision brings and look forward to partnering with ABC Bakers to create an outstanding cookie sale for 2008. For more information on the new Girl Scout Cookie varities and ABC Bakers please visit www.girlscoutcookiesabc.com
The Cookie Task Group has been working for several months on details of the sale. Each member of the group has experience and expertise in the Girl Scout Cookie Sale and each council was responsible for selecting its own members from staff, operational volunteers, and board members. Selection of ABC as our cookie supplier for Girl Scouts of Western Ohio was based on the recommendation of this group comprised of equal representation from all four merging councils. A process was developed and implemented for the selection of the cookie supplier. After interviewing a team from each baker and reviewing information presented as to how they would meet the set criteria, the Cookie Selection Task Group was excited to recommend to the merging council CEOs that ABC Baker be the official baker for the 2008 Cookie Sale.
We recognize that selecting a new cookie baker and creating a unified cookie sale for all four merging Girl Scout councils will create variations to each regions sale. When the merger process first began, the first and foremost priority was to continue the level of services you expect for both girls and adults. For that reason, each region will maintain its current price per box - Appleseed Ridge, Buckeye Trails and Great Rivers are at $3, and Maumee Valley is at $3.50.
The theme for the 2008 Cookie Program is Ready, Set, Go! Key dates for the sale are:
- January 11-27 - girls begin taking orders
- February 16-22 - cookies are delivered, and
- February 22 - cookie cupboards (pantries) open and council sponsored cookie booths begin
- March 29 - cupboards close.
