History and Who We Serve
On March 12, 1912 Juliette Gordon Low organized the first Girl Scout troop in the United States.  The first troop consisted of 12 girls.  The current national membership is over 2.8 million. Girl Scouts are also members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

In 1917, the Toledo Girl Scout Council received the first official Girl Scout Charter inthe United States of America.  This Council was merged with Defiance Council in 1967 to form Maumee Valley Girl Scout Council.  In 2000, the name was changed to Girl Scouts of Maumee Valley Council, Inc.

In January 2008, Girl Scout Councils of Great Rivers, Buckeye Trails, Appleseed Ridge and Maumee Valley merged to become Girl Scouts of Western Ohio.  Girl Scouts of Western Ohio serves almost 60,000 girls in a 32-county area in western Ohio and southeastern Indiana.
